The 5 Percent Fund recently received a large donation from an anonymous party. This is extremely exciting as it is helping us reach our goal of raising $100,000 by the end of 2009. A goal that is not going to be reached without your help. With each donation we are able to help out the community and local skateparks such the Charles River Skatepark in Massachusetts and the Washington Street Skatepark in San Diego. If you would like more information on how to make a donation contact Ben at Ben.myers@admskateboards.com.
Living in America’s Finest city it is easy to get lost in our endless summer. While other people are worried about the upcoming hurricane season in the gulf, or who is going to win the gold medal in then men’s 400 at the 2008 Olympics in China, we are cruising the boardwalk on our new ADM decks featuring art by Papermonster.
We have been fortunate enough to be slapped out of our summer stupor by a good friend of ours, Steff. who created an event called the Hurricane Olympics. To the regular joe off the street that might seem ridiculous to combine athletic events with hurricane conditions!?! Well thats exactly what this event ISN’T.
The Hurricane Olympics was started in the summer of 2007 as a competitive event amongst friends. It is sort of like keg party meets a track meet if you will…but without any running. The event host 12 teams that compete in six events of skill, athleticism, balance, and an overall ability to grind through the pain…The sixth event, the most important event, is racking up donations that go to the charity sponsored by the Hurricane Olympics. This year the Hurricane Olympics will donate 100% of the proceeds to the Make A Wish Foundation of San Diego.
This is a great event that I’m sure will spread like the wild-fires of San Diego County, bringing friends together to compete, have fun, and all for a good cause.
ADM is fielding a team this year and word on the street is they are favored to win the gold! Look for my Victory Blog on August 3rd.
This years event is taking place in Carlsbad CA, on August 2nd 2008. For more info about the Hurricane Olympics click here!
If you want to get a Washington Apple that you can use more than once check out the Desolation Clothing Website. Desolation Clothing has a steezy style like this limited edition Washington Apple t-shirt (only 100 made) that you should get your hands on before everyone else. You wouldn’t want a bad apple to spoil it for you.
Desolation Clothing is all about the right things. Their slogan reads, “Desolation Clothing: Made by riders, worn by riders. Homegrown in Washington State.” We would agree with everything except we can’t claim Washington State but at least we know some good people that can. Oh yeah, they also have some riders to back it up.
Check out this video for proof. Dan Ching is one of their riders and he definitely brings it Washington State style.
